(The Very Last!) ENG 2P1 Writing Portfolio Task
Series of Paragraphs
This is our final Portfolio task, and the trickiest Literacy Test component. We will be writing this essay in small portions in class. Each portion will be due at the end of the time allotted in class. Students who complete it on time will get the revision and feedback they need from the teacher to proceed. Although you will be given time in class according to the schedule attached, students will have to complete portions of this task outside of class time. Assignments will not be accepted after the due date. Good luck! 
 
 
Instructions:
q       Your essay must be a minimum of 400 words.
q       Your essay must focus on ONE side of the issue.
q       Keep in mind that your audience is adults.
q       Your introduction must have a grabber statement and you must clearly state your three arguments. 
q       Your essay must be heavily revised, edited and typed.
q       You need to hand in a brainstorm, an outline, and a rough draft with evidence of revision/ editing with your good copy.
q       Your essay must have a title page with your name, my name, the class name and your essay’s title on it.
 
 
Please choose one of the following topics and write a persuasive essay:
 
 

       TOPICS(remember, choose one side of the issue):
 
1. Facebook and other social networking sites should be allowed on school computer systems.
2.     All students should have to participate in extra-curricular activities.
3.     Field trips should be abolished from highschools.
4.     Students should be required to do community service to graduate.
5.     Phys.ed classes should be mandatory for all students until grade 12.
6. The Ontario Literacy test should be abolished.
7. The Internet has had a positive influence on this generation.
8. Highschool students should have part-time jobs.
9. Parents should have to pay for their child’s post-secondary education.
10. Students should be able to eat and drink in class.

Schedule and Due Dates:
Thursday                     -choose a topic and brainstorm for arguments (5-7)
                               -choose 3 or 4 best arguments and create an organized
outline.
-teacher approves outline by end of class
-rough introduction completed for Tuesday at the start of class
Tuesday        -write body paragraphs 1 and 2
Wednesday       -write body paragraph 3 and conclusion
-start to peer edit essays
Thursday                 -finish peer editing (do a good job!)
Friday and        -computer processing
Monday             -students will submit good copy and all process work
*All essays due, in ‘good’ by START of Tuesday’s class.+
 
Evaluation:
Process    -Brainstorm (2 marks), Outline (3 marks),                          /15
             -Participation in peer editing (5 marks)
               -use class time wisely/good effort (5 marks)
 
Content   -strong arguments, essay is persuasive,                     /25
               -essay is a minimum of 400 words

          -few spelling and grammar errors

          -linking words used often, and effectively
