Book Report Test                                               

Instructions

On ___________________ students will choose a fictional novel to read.  Students will, for the next _____ days, read silently at the beginning of every class.  If they’re done their novel before that, they will choose another novel to read.  On _____________ and ____________ students will write a practice book report test, edit it and complete a final copy.  This will be assessed by the teacher with comments and feedback, and given a completeness mark.  On ______________ and ____________ students will complete their Book Report test and follow the same procedure.  This test will be evaluated for 30 marks with the rubric attached.  Without the rubric, students will only receive oral feedback.

Part A-   Daily Participation         20 marks

Each day, students will receive marks for arriving to class on time, and using the entire portion of time allotted for reading their novels independently.

Part B-   Book Report                40 marks final copy

                                                10 marks practice completion

Write a standard book report (400+ word- count them) in paragraphs in the following format.  Mention the underlined words in the first topic sentence of each paragraph.  Print out a first draft, edit it in pen, and make the changes for a good copy.  Submit 2 copies and the rubric for evaluation.

(Paragraph 1)            A general introduction with the title, author and reasons why you chose this book.

(2)                               A description of the settings and how they may impact on the people’s beliefs/actions and on your reaction as a reader.

 

(3)                               A brief summary of the plot, with all the main crises points and the climax/resolution.

(4)                               The main conflicts, which are sustained throughout most or all of the storyline.  Identify the TYPE of each conflict.

(5)                               A character study which identifies the traits of the main character and examples from the story of each.

 

(6)                               An overall reaction to, or impression of, the novel.
